Sign Sparks Controversy
An Oklahoma liquor store faced backlash for a sign in their window that some found offensive. The sign at Midwest Wine and Spirits read, “Pull your pants up or don’t come in. Try to have some decency and respect for others. Nobody wants to see your undies.” While it aimed to enforce a dress code, the message sparked a heated debate online.

Online Outrage
Once the sign was shared on social media, it quickly went viral. Critics argued the store had no right to dictate what customers could wear. This controversy highlights the tension between maintaining public decorum and respecting individual fashion choices.

Store’s Defense
Chad Gilbert, a manager at the store, defended the sign: “I realize wearing pants low is a fashion statement for some, but it doesn’t work for me, and I find it somewhat offensive.” A store employee added, “Usually when people come in with their pants sagging, it’s easier for them to steal bottles.” They emphasized the intent was to maintain a respectful environment, not to target any group.

Community Reactions
Local customer Sunshine Weatherby remarked, “I can see if it was like a church. There are families there, which may bother you, but this is a liquor store. Worse has happened in a liquor store.” This comment reflects the diverse opinions on appropriate dress codes in different settings.

The debate around the sign underscores the broader societal discussions on public behavior and personal freedom.
