Crazy liberal Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) faced fierce backlash from angry constituents at her town hall. A video of the event resurfaced from her 2022 event, showing frustrated protesters confronting the congresswoman about her support for continued military funding to Ukraine, claiming she has betrayed her progressive principles.
During the heated exchange, a protester sharply criticized Ocasio-Cortez’s vote to supply Ukraine with weapons, alleging her actions could lead the United States into a devastating nuclear conflict with Russia and China. This dramatic video highlighted concerns of the millions of Americans who feel betrayed by progressive leaders like Ocasio-Cortez.
The battle between AOC and the protestors began when he confidently interrupted the congresswoman by blasting the decision by Congress to send weapons to Ukraine, warning of a potential war. He said, “Congresswoman, none of this matters if there’s a nuclear war, which you voted to send arms and weapons to Ukraine,”
The protester continued to praise former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, who famously left the Democratic Party due to its pro-war policies and became the Director of National Intelligence under the Trump Administration. The protester said, “Tulsi Gabbard, she’s left the Democratic Party because they’re a bunch of war hawks.”
The accusations intensified as another protester labeled Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a coward and rebuked her as a progressive socialist who had done nothing to oppose the war mobilization. The protester also compared AOC to Tulsi Gabbard, declaring: “Tulsi Gabbard has shown guts where you’ve shown cowardice. I believed in you, and you became the very thing you sought to fight against.”
Another constituent amplified the criticism, condemning AOC for betraying her original campaign promises and becoming what she once vowed to fight against. The protester shouted, “You ran as an outsider, yet you’re voting to start a third nuclear war with Russia and China. Why are you playing with the lives of American citizens?”
Many of the protestors held the same high level of passion, demanding that AOC follow in the footsteps of Tulsi Gabbard and denounce the Democratic Party. Another protester said, “You are the establishment, and you are the reason why everybody will end up in a nuclear war unless you choose to stand up right now and denounce the Democratic Party.”
As cracks in the Democratic Party formed, Ahmed Husain, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, echoed the protesters’ sentiments. Writing in a blog post in June 2024, he said, “For people who struggle letting go of the notion of AOC as this upstart insurgent against the establishment, I think it is uncomfortable to reckon with her absorption into the establishment because it reinforces despair.”
AOC has continued facing criticism over her relatively more hawkish stance, shrinking her friendships in Washington and support from her radical left-wing base. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sharply criticized Rep. Ocasio-Cortez for supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris’s stance on Gaza. She said, “It’s been unconscionable to witness my colleagues in this administration refusing to recognize the genocidal war that is taking place in Gaza … working tirelessly for a ceasefire is really not a thing and they should be ashamed of themselves”
