Blended families must find stability, and that is not always easy. The status of stepparents, in particular, often proves delicate and requires time and discussions, especially when the breakup between partners was complicated.
Candice Curry was divorced and had a teenage daughter. When she learned that her former partner, the father of her child, was about to remarry, she decided to write a letter to his new wife on her blog.
“To the stepmother of my daughter,
I never desired your presence. You were never in my plans. When I grew up and wanted to build a family, I did not think of you. My vision was that my family would consist of me, my husband, and our children, not you.
I presume you also never imagined having a child that you did not give birth to.
I am willing to bet that your plan involved you, a father, and your children all together, not me or my little girl.
But God has plans that we cannot imagine. When my home split to create two families, I sensed that you would come. In my mind, you were going to be a dreadful person, and my daughter would not want you to be her mother, absolutely not, not at all!
