He first asked whether someone else had accompanied her, adding he had bad and good news for her. The medical professional asked Smith what she wanted to hear first, and she only wanted to know the outcome of her results. She recalled in a June 2022 interview:
“He said, ‘Well, you do have breast cancer, but it’s small, and we’ve gotten it early.’ And I think the first thing I said was, ‘Will I be here for my children?’ And he said, ‘Yes, you will. You’ll be here.'”
Jaclyn admitted she was skeptical at first about the doctor’s response and remembered, “So then I just said, ‘Well, you know what, I want a mastectomy. I just want this off.'”
The TV star revealed she underwent a lumpectomy with radiation to treat the cancer. Moreover, she had a strong support system thanks to her friends, who helped her get through the experience.
Smith is now a cancer survivor. On October 28, 2023, she reflected on her journey on Instagram alongside a solo shot of herself in an all-white outfit and penned:
