The rehearsal should have also included a prop gun instead of the real deal

April 7, 2025

We now know the real reason why Alec Baldwin tragically shot and killed his colleague Halyna Hutchins on the set of their movie Rust in October 2021. Santa Fe prosecutors have formally charged him with involuntary manslaughter, and the details of what happened are both shocking and heartbreaking. We can only hope that justice is served in this case, and while prosecutors get down to brass tacks, we wish that Halyna Hutchins may rest in peace.

On October 2021, tragedy struck the set of Rust, the anticipated movie starring Alec Baldwin and Halyna Hutchins (below). Amidst the gunfire of a dramatic scene, something went wrong, and Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot.

An investigation ensued, and it was revealed that Baldwin had been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the beautiful cinematographer’s death. The tragic incident has shattered what could have been an amazing opportunity for everyone on the crew of Rust and resulted in irreversible heartache for their families, as well as great anguish and uncertainty throughout the production industry.

Mary Carmack-Altwies, the Santa Fe district attorney, claimed that Baldwin, who is an Oscar-nominated actor, was not present for all of his firearm safety training prior to the start of filming Rust. When an hour-long training was offered to Baldwin, he did take it; however, he appeared uninterested and kept himself busy and preoccupied with his smartphone.

The prosecutor’s team found “reckless deviation from known standards and practice and protocol” in concern with Hutchins’s death, which occurred during an unscheduled rehearsal, during which the standard two-safety checks were not completed. The rehearsal should have also included a prop gun instead of the real deal.

“Today we have taken another important step in securing justice for Halyna Hutchins,” said Carmack-Altwies in a statement. “In New Mexico, no one is above the law, and justice will be served.”

Meanwhile, Baldwin vowed to fight the involuntary manslaughter charge against him. He continues to claim that he did not pull the trigger and that it was all a horrible accident. He was completely reliant on the firearms expert hired to be on the set of the movie Rust.

If New Mexico prosecutors succeed in convicting actor Alec Baldwin, he could face up to five years in prison. The movie’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed (below), has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Hutchins’ case.

In their research, prosecutors found that Baldwin missed his initial firearms training session. A follow-up was scheduled, but Gutierrez-Reed only worked with Baldwin for thirty minutes instead of the scheduled one hour.

“According to Reed, Baldwin was distracted and talking on his cell phone to his family during the training,” the prosecutors stated.

The prosecution claims to have ample “photos and videos (that) clearly show Baldwin, multiple times, with his finger inside the trigger guard and on the trigger… Baldwin approached responding deputies on the day of the shooting, wanting to talk to them because he was the one who ‘fired’ the gun.”

Do you think Baldwin should spend time in prison?
