Michael was an NFL football player who inspired the film The Blind Side.
He’s stated that he’s suing the folks who took him in, Sean and Leigh Anne, accusing them of profiting from his narrative.
Oher has petitioned a Tennessee court, alleging that a fundamental feature of the film, his adoption, was a fraud «concocted by the family to enrich themselves at his expense.»
Quinton Aaron played Michael in the 2006 movie, which showed him struggling with homelessness and going in and out of the educational system.
Sandra Bullock was cast as Leigh Anne Tuohy, a feisty mother who takes in Michael and offers him an opportunity he would not have had otherwise.
Leigh Anne and Sean (Tim McGraw) finally become the athlete’s legal guardians, and he makes it to the NFL and even makes it to the Super Bowl.Michael is now alleging that Sean and Leigh Anne’s adoption never happened and that they ‘tricked him’ into signing a form naming them as his conservators.
According to the complaint, the Tuohys and their two birth children received ‘$225,000’ plus ‘2.5%’ of the film’s ‘specified net earnings’.
The Oscar-winning film grossed over $300 million at the box office, but Oher received nothing, according to ESPN on Monday (August 14)), despite the fact that the tale «would not have existed without him.»
Sean Tuohy, on the other hand, has reacted angrily to Michael’s legal allegations.
He told The Daily Memphian that he never duped Oher and that the family didn’t make much money from his claim.
«We contacted lawyers who told us that we couldn’t adopt children over the age of 18; the only option was to have a conservatorship,» he explained.
«We were so concerned that everything was in order that we made sure the biological mother came to court.»
«We didn’t make any money off the movie,» Sean continued. Well, Michael Lewis [author of The Blind Side] offered us half of his share.
«Everyone in the family, including Michael, received an equal share.» It cost roughly $14,000 per person.»
Tuohy stated that it is terrible to believe that someone would wish to profit from children.
«There is no doubt that the allegations are insulting,» he remarked. «But, look, it’s a crazy world out there.»
«You have to live in it. Everyone is plainly unhappy.»
