One of the things that make us humans unique from other species is how helpless our infants are in a large part of their childhood. At the Zoo, the puppies grow up too fast – foals, for example, walk on their feet a few hours after they are born. Humans, on the other hand, need special treatment in the first few years of their lives.
And one of the biggest dangers for babies is choking.
According to the Health Department of New York State, children under age of 5 are at the greatest risk of choking, and it is the fourth leading cause of death without intention among babies. Food usually causes suffocation, but also other items like toys or anything else that kids put in their mouth and may cause them to suffocate.
Unfortunately, most people have no idea what to do when a baby is choked, and you can’t do the Heimlich maneuver on them. A study found that more than 40% of the parents witnessed suffocation of their child, and more than 80% of these parents didn’t know how to react to the situation.
That’s the reason why this video was created. It explains what to do if your baby chokes and stops breathing.
Its important that everyone knows!
