A 14-year-old girl was suspended from school after she gave painfully blunt answers on an assignment for her sex education class. Her older sister decided to post the test to the Internet to show others what landed the girl in trouble. The only question is, do you think she deserved it?

Jordan Fridman, a 21-year-old woman from Montreal, was quite impressed with her little sister Mariah’s work on a particular assignment. Feeling proud of the teen, Jordan posted a photo of Mariah’s homework to Imgur, under the Imgur account “dogsandcatsandlemursohmy,” where it quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and grabbing headlines too.
“Two years ago today, my then 14-year-old sister got suspended for submitting these answers for her sex-ed class. I’m so proud of her,” Jordan Fridman captioned the image. She wasn’t alone. Although Mariah’s answers contained strong language, she immediately began receiving her fair share of accolades for her brutal honesty. “It came up in my Timehop. This was kind of funny, I thought. Let’s post this to Imgur,” Fridman told Buzzfeed, explaining why she posted the assignment. But, not everyone found it amusing.

According to the directions on the paper, students were to read through “partner objections” to condom use during sex. Next, they were to consider possible responses to those excuses that were also listed on the paper. Then, they were to “Record the letter (or letters) of appropriate responses to these objections on the line beside each objection.”
Time permitting, they were also instructed to “list a few objections and/or responses” of their own for someone who wanted to have sex but didn’t want to use a condom. And, that’s where Maria got into some trouble with her creativity. While her colorful language does seem to cross the line, it was quickly apparent that the girl knew exactly what could happen if she had unprotected sex.

“I don’t want AIDS,” a 14-year-old Mariah wrote as her response to the first objection, which read, “Don’t worry; I’m on the pill.” That answer was very mild as viewers would soon see as they read on. “I’m clean; I don’t run around, and I don’t have any infections,” the second excuse read. “Go f— yourself,” the teen declared in response.
“Condoms don’t feel good. It won’t be natural,” yet another objection read. “Being pregnant doesn’t feel good either,” Mariah responded. When the fourth excuse claimed the mood would be lost during the time it takes to put on a condom, Mariah pointed out that when you don’t put one on, “you get a little baby and AIDS!”

“I’d be embarrassed to use one,” another anti-condom excuse stated. Mariah again responded with inappropriate language. “Look at all the f—s I give!” she exclaimed. “Condoms are gross; they’re messy; I hate them,” the seventh example read. “So are babies,” the teen quipped.
“Just this once; we hardly ever have sex,” another problem reads. “Now you know why,” the girl answered. “I don’t have a condom with me,” one objection stated. “I don’t have my vagina with me,” the cheeky teen wrote. Lastly, the paper suggested condoms “cost too much,” to which the teen accurately replied, “STD treatments and babies cost more.”

Cosmo applauded Mariah’s answers, writing, “Not only should she not have been suspended for that, she should’ve been given a medal.” But, some felt that her suspension was well-deserved, mostly because of the language she used. Of course, that’s not the only controversy the viral assignment caused. It also raised the issue of whether the questions themselves were appropriate.
Public schools teaching sex education to children is a hot-button issue. People are divided on the subject, but many parents feel addressing such sensitive issues should be their responsibility alone. Regardless of your stance, however, Mariah’s answers suggest she fully understands the importance of safe sex and why protection is vital. Granted, most would agree that 14 is entirely too young to be sexually active, but the fact that the topic needs to be taught at such a young age shows the world our children are growing up in. Temptation can strike our youth, causing them to do things they shouldn’t. So, it’s better they realize what consequences they could face, rather than be oblivious and end up in even more trouble.
