Expert warns about outcomes of using air fryers instead of cooking in ovens

A well-known specialist in cost-cutting, Martin Lewis, has expressed worry over the use of air fryers in place of ovens. Lewis contends that despite their rising popularity, air fryers might not be as economical as claimed.

Lewis noted that ovens can occasionally be less expensive than air fryers on recent episode of The Martin Lewis podcast. He emphasized that while ovens heat to a maximum temperature and then cycle on and off to maintain it, microwaves heat evenly. This implies that during the cooking process, ovens don’t run at maximum power.

Lewis gave a concrete example to support his argument. The cost of using the oven as opposed to the microwave would probably be lower if one were preparing a complete roast meal with several jacket potatoes. This is so that while the oven can cook everything at once, the microwave takes longer to cook each new item.

Lewis noted that this does not necessarily imply that air fryers should be completely disregarded. The air fryer or microwave would be more economical when only a tiny amount of food, such as a single jacket potato, needs to be cooked. However, it might not be feasible to continually determine the cost-effectiveness of every cooking situation.

Lewis went so far as to provide a mathematical formula to compare the economic effectiveness of various cooking equipment. One may determine the cost per operating hour by taking into account the wattage and the amount of time used. He did admit, though, that more potent air fryers might cost more to operate.

The Money Edit asserts that the average operating cost of an oven is 21p while the operating cost of an air fryer is 13.6p, supporting Lewis’ claim. It should be noted, nevertheless, that more potent air fryers may have greater operating expenses.

Martin Lewis concludes by saying that utilizing a microwave or air fryer may be more economical for minor and straightforward culinary operations. Ovens, however, are sometimes a more cost-effective option for bigger dinners or cooking several things at once. Lewis has previously attracted a lot of attention for his knowledgeable viewpoints on financial issues, such as the risks associated with debit cards and the advantages of credit cards.
