Hollywood icon, screen legend, and artist Bette Midler, 77, is a loving mother to Sophie von Haselberg, 36, and a doting wife to Martin von Haselberg, 74. Midler and von Haselberg have been together for close to four decades and are still going strong.
However, their marriage, which boasts 38 years, has not always been smooth sailing and, in fact, endured a rough patch for some time. In the past, the “Wind Beneath My Wings” singer got candid about the issues she and her husband had faced.
Midler disclosed how the couple used to fight a lot. While taping a pre-recorded show in Britain in 2013, she disclosed she and her spouse, who tied the knot after only six weeks of meeting, eventually agreed to make a concerted effort to stop fighting and stay together for the sake of their daughter:
“We used to fight bitterly, we came to the conclusion that we wanted to raise a child, we wanted to raise a really wonderful child, we never wanted to hurt that kid in any way and we stayed together until it got better, and it did get better and it was really fascinating.”
