Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America said nice things about President Trump and said he was like Constantine the Great.
On Monday, to honor Greek Independence Day, also called the Celebration of the Greek Revolution, Elpidophoros spoke next to the president at the White House. The event honors the start of the Greek Revolution in 1821, which paved the way for Greece’s independence from the Ottoman Empire after almost 400 years of rule.
While standing next to Trump, Elpidophoros gave the president high praise and said that he was like one of the most admired leaders in Orthodoxy.
“Through your leadership, you embody the values of our Christian faith and a love for the Gospel. You remind me of the great Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, who founded and built the magnificent city of Constantinople — my birthplace, known today as Istanbul,” he said, drawing cheers at the mention of Constantine.
