Counselor to President Donald Trump, Alina Habba, recently criticized Democrats for their continuous efforts to obstruct the administration’s progress. During an interview on “America Reports,” she discussed with co-hosts John Roberts and Sandra Smith the challenges faced in the early days of Trump’s return to the White House and what to expect in the first 100 days of his presidency.
Habba highlighted the administration’s creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a new initiative aimed at identifying and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. She noted that many on the left are upset, but warned that even more inefficiencies will be exposed in the coming months.
Criticism from Senator Schumer
During the interview, Roberts played a clip of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer strongly criticizing a recent Trump administration decision. Schumer labeled the move as “lawless, dangerous, destructive, and cruel,” and stated that legal action would be taken against it.
Habba responded directly, saying, “Chuck, your Attorney General is not the Attorney General. We have an Attorney General, and that is Pam Bondi. The opinions of Democrats on legal matters are irrelevant; what matters is the guidance from the White House Counsel and the U.S. Attorney General.”
She defended the administration’s budget cuts, citing the president’s efforts to rein in spending. “Look at what President Trump has done with DOGE. He has reduced wasteful expenditures while bringing in trillions of dollars through investments and economic reforms. Under the previous administration, funds were spent frivolously on things like DEI programs and unnecessary projects that do not align with the priorities of American taxpayers.”
Habba also took issue with what she called a “left-wing narrative,” stating that Democrats would continue to oppose Trump’s policies as his administration implements reforms. “We are examining every aspect of government spending, ensuring responsible use of taxpayer dollars. The previous administration had little regard for financial accountability, and we are here to change that.”
Response to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson
Another clip played during the segment featured Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson criticizing the administration’s decision to cut certain federal funds. Johnson argued that the Trump administration does not fully understand the needs of working Americans and accused them of disregarding legislative mandates.
Habba dismissed these criticisms, asserting that the real mandate came from the American people during the last election. “The mandate was given on November 5th, when Americans overwhelmingly voted for President Trump and his America First agenda. That’s exactly what we are delivering. Every single official being appointed is aligned with these priorities.”
She emphasized that the administration is working to disrupt ineffective governance and implement policies that reflect the will of the voters. “President Trump is a disruptor because he aims to make America stronger. Every confirmed official is committed to the America First agenda.”
Ongoing Confirmation Challenges
Habba also addressed the slow pace of confirmations for key officials, attributing it to deliberate obstruction by Democrats. “They are playing games, delaying hearings, and refusing to cooperate. However, we have acting officials in place ensuring the administration runs efficiently. The Department of Justice and other agencies are fully operational, implementing executive orders and moving forward with policy changes.”
She urged lawmakers to expedite confirmations, particularly for crucial positions like Attorney General. “Americans are tired of political stalling. They want capable leaders in place, and that’s exactly what we’re working towards.”
The First Weeks in the White House
As the interview concluded, Smith asked Habba about the energy within the White House during the administration’s early days. Habba expressed optimism and confidence in the team’s efforts.
“First, I want to congratulate Karoline Leavitt on her outstanding performance as press secretary. She will do a fantastic job. Second, the energy inside the White House is incredible. Everyone is working long hours to correct the damage done over the past four years. We are moving quickly, and President Trump is following through on every promise he made on the campaign trail.”
She reassured Americans that change is happening, though patience will be required. “There is a lot to fix, but we are making significant progress. President Trump is not one to play games—when he makes a commitment, he follows through. We will continue implementing policies that benefit Americans and uphold the values they voted for.”
