“A nurse’s kind act saves the life of a dying patient’s dog

November 28, 2024

In a touching act of kindness, a nurse at Northside Hospital Gwinnett went out of her way to help a dying patient find a new home for her dog. The nurse, Kim Still, had become close with the old woman, who was sick with cancer and didn’t have any family or children to take care of her beloved Chihuahua, Jax.

As the patient’s condition got worse, her main worry was what would happen to Jax. Their family told Kim to take Jax to a shelter since they didn’t have any family who could take him in. Kim knew, though, that shelters often can’t find homes for dogs, so some of them have to be put down.

The patient’s love for Jax made Kim want to adopt the dog herself. She couldn’t stand the thought of killing Jax. Kim’s kindness made the patient feel better, and she died peacefully, knowing that Jax was in good hands.

Through her amazing actions, Kim shows how deeply nurses often connect with their patients. “You form bonds with some people that you can’t expect,” she thought. This was a truly amazing event.”

Jax and Kim quickly got used to their new home together, and Jax showered Kim with love and attention. For Kim, he was “the cutest and most loving dog.” She said, “I’ll always have to work to get rid of him.”

Kim won the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for her kind act. Kim is a nurse who has a long effect on the lives of her patients and their beloved pets. Her story shows how kind, caring, and dedicated nurses can be.

Many times, it seems like there isn’t much kindness in the world. Kim’s selfless act is a strong reminder that one person can make a big difference. The happy finish for Jax shows how kindness and compassion can change things.
