Monica’s family had been struggling financially for quite some time. With her husband Jeff Layton’s cancer diagnosis and frequent trips to the hospital, they had been living from paycheck to paycheck.
After Jeff was forced to leave his job due to his illness, Monica became the family’s sole breadwinner, taking on multiple jobs to keep their finances afloat. The added expenses of hospital bills, medication, and travel had affected their finances.
The couple, who h ad been struggling for so long, worrying about how they would make ends meet, were in shock and disbelief.
They Remain Generous through Their Struggles
Despite their struggles, Jeff and Monica remained kind and compassionate towards others. They recognized the importance of helping those in need and gave back to their community in any way possible.
Whether preparing meals for the sick or giving away clothes to the homeless, they never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Their kindness extended beyond material things, even welcoming those who needed company during the holidays.

The Unexpected Visitors
In December 2021, unexpected visitors stood at their door—it was a team from East Idaho News who acted as representatives for a Secret Santa.
The couple, who had been struggling for so long, worrying about how they would make ends meet, were in shock and disbelief.
When they saw the team approaching their home, holding a box, it was like a weight had been lifted from their shoulders.

The Life-Changing Gifts from Secret Santa
Monica’s tears of joy were contagious, and even Jeff couldn’t help but be moved by the generosity they were experiencing. The gifts they received were more than just material possessions; they represented hope and a new beginning. The husband expressed: “We appreciate it. We appreciate it. You have no idea.”
They were handed $2,000 in gas cards to assist Jeff’s regular trips to the hospital and $3,000 in grocery vouchers. Their rent payment for the next year was a game-changer for the couple. Monica shared:
“Thank you, guys, so much. You don’t know what this means. We literally have gone month to month wondering if we were still going to have a house because we’ve had to sell things to get our rent paid.”
