When Kylie Jenner gave birth to her second child with Travis Scott on February 2, 2022, the couple (who have since split) decided to name him Wolf Jacques Webster. It didn’t take long for the 24-year-old (now 25 years old) to realize it wasn’t the right name for him and she quite quickly decided to change it.
She notified her fans and followers of the change in late-March 2022 – nearly two months after Aire was born. “FYI our son’s name isn’t Wolf anymore,” she wrote in a statement posted on her Instagram Story. “We just really didn’t feel like it was him. Just wanted to share because I keep seeing Wolf everywhere.”
Unfortunately, Kylie failed to mention what they were changing his name to – sending her fans into a frenzy as they tried to figure it out through trial and error. That frenzy continued for nearly 10 months until she finally decided to share her son’s real name on Instagram in January 2023 – it’s Aire Webster.
By March, court documents – obtained by TODAY – revealed that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott (born Jacques Bermon Webster II) filed to legally change their son’s name. It was later approved by Judge Valerie Salkin of the Los Angeles County Superior Court in June – officially making Aire his legal name.
On Thursday (July 27), during the Season 3 finale of The Kardashians on Hulu, Kylie Jenner shared more details of her son’s name change – including the emotions she was experiencing when she realized Wolf wasn’t the right name for her child and why she and Travis ultimately decided to go with the name Aire.
“I didn’t realize the postpartum (hormones) would hit me that hard. I never called him Wolf ever. And then the second night, I was like, ‘Ooh,’” she said during a confessional – adding that the name wasn’t even on her list. “That night, I cried in the shower, and I was like, ‘That’s not his name. What did I just do? Wolf?!’
It’s not something every mother experiences, but Kylie Jenner certainly isn’t alone in wanting to legally change her child’s name after they’re born. With nearly four million babies being born every year (roughly 11,000 per day), it’s something that happens more often than you’d think – and for a variety of reasons.
Kylie Jenner Reveals the Meaning Behind Her Son’s New Name
During the Season 3 finale, Kylie Jenner was talking to her best friend – Anastasia ‘Stassie’ Karanikolaou – about her son’s name and why she changed it. At the time of taping the episode, she had just began the process of legally changing the name (which would’ve been sometime in early 2023) from Wolf to Aire.
“I just always wanted a name for him that had meaning,” she said – further adding in a confessional that she struggled to find ‘a name good enough for him’ because he was ‘so special’ to her. As for why she chose Aire, she liked that it was a Hebrew name and explained that it translates to ‘Lion of God.’
In just a few days, Aire will officially be 18 months old as he continues to prove that kids grow up way too fast . It’s a sentiment most of her fans agree with. “Do kardashian kids age in dog years or sumn bc I swear this kid was just born,” one fan wrote in a comment underneath a recent picture of Kylie and Aire.
In addition to her 18-month-old son, Kylie Jenner is also a mother to her 5-year-old daughter, Stormi Webster. She was born on Feb. 1, 2018 and almost shares a birthday with her younger brother – born on Feb. 2, 2022. While Kylie and Travis aren’t together, they take their roles as co-parents very seriously.
