Gena Rowlands, whose full name is Virginia Cathryn Gena Rowlands, is another actress from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Born on 19 June 1930, she will turn 93 later this year. She worked with her late actor-director husband John Cassavetes in ten films, including A Woman Under the Influence (1974) and Gloria (1980), both of which earned her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Younger film lovers will recognise her for her performance as the older version of Allie Hamilton in The Notebook (2004), which was directed by her son Nick Cassavetes.
