While Tom Hanks always thought he didn’t have the face for a mustache it seems the Hollywood star had a change of heart as he debuted his iconic new look on the red carpet.
This week the former Forrest Gump actor stepped out with a noticeable change as he showed off his new mustache on during the 25th An Unforgettable Evening gala benefiting the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Tom turned heads on the charity red carpet event as he rocked the new facial hair alongside his wife Rita Wilson, whom he’s been happily married to for the past 35 years.
During their red carpet date night the 67-year-old actor sported a sleek, classic black suit over a white button-down complete with a grey-and-black patterned tie. His lovely date for the evening looked equally as stylish as she wore a flattering off-the-shoulder long pink ruffle dress complete with an eye-catching shining silver flower necklace. The former A Man Called Otto’s new look comes as a surprise to fans as he previously claimed that he didn’t have the face for a mustache. The beloved actor shared this as he was seen clean shaven during an interview with E! News on the red carpet at the AFI Film Festival’s opening night gala screening of Saving Mr. Banks.
In the 2013 comedy drama, Tom starred as Walt Disney where he portrayed the ambitious businessman on his two-decade-long journey of gaining the rights to the beloved children’s movie Mary Poppins. In the hit Blockbuster film Tom sported a full mustache as the Disney founder did back in the day.
But when he was questioned as to where it went on the day of the premiere, he seemed to think it didn’t suit his face so he did away with it. During the interview, Tom said: “Oh gosh, this is not a mustache face, I’m sorry!” And went on to joke: “This was one of the most seriously planned out, examined, discussed mustaches in history. There was a lot of discussion about this mustache.” But it seems Tom took a U-turn on his hot take as he brought back the stache in all it’s glory for the 2024 for the Hollywood fundraising event.
