Kathleen Turner became really famous for her looks in the early 1980s. She acted in lots of movies with famous actors like Steve Martin, Michael Douglas, and Jack Nicholson. But as time went on, her acting career started to slow down.
In 1994, she said she had a medical condition that caused her a lot of pain and fever. This made it hard for her to act and affected her popularity in showbiz. But she still got nominated for awards, showing you can succeed even if you’re not super beautiful or famous.
In the early 1990s, she was diagnosed with a disease called rheumatoid arthritis. Doctors thought she might need a wheelchair because her wrists were swollen, making it hard for her to move. Some people thought she was drinking a lot to numb the pain, but that wasn’t true.
In 2009, she wrote about her struggle with rheumatoid arthritis. She said that being s/e/x/y and goodlooking didn’t matter as much as being able to walk without pain.
You might know her as Jessica Rabbit from the movie “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” in 1988. After her diagnosis, she took a lot of medicines that changed how she looked. People thought she was using drugs or drinking too much, but she didn’t talk about it. Her new appearance was because of the medicines her doctors gave her.
Her battle with rheumatoid arthritis is over now. She got better by doing gymnastics and Pilates every day. She was married to a real estate guy, Jay Weiss, for 23 years before they got divorced in 2007.
She’s not in movies and plays as much as she used to be. But despite her health problems, she took control and faced the challenges.
