Have you ever seen something in a box in the attic that you didn’t know what it was? These are things my grandparents knew, but the idea of what they could do has been lost over time.
Above is a photo of what we have for you. Although your grandparents and great-grandparents may have used it often, it is something that very few people use in this way. The internet had a hard time even understanding what this was.
In case you don’t know, this is a hand mixer. It was used to stir food in the kitchen and it really saved a lot of time compared to mixing with a spoon. Of course, it wasn’t electric, but the rotating parts were still making a quick mess.
The rotary mixer was patented in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1865. A deep fryer followed soon after in 1857, and another incubator was introduced in 1859.
This is still a very popular kitchen appliance and even though nowadays we have automatic appliances it was very effective in saving space in the kitchen and that is why they became so popular.
It’s always interesting to see something like this because it was popular years ago. Who knows, a hundred years from now, people might be wondering what we use when cooking.
